Free Utah CDL Practice Tests
Getting your CDL in Utah starts with the written knowledge tests at the Utah Driver License Division. Those exams are built on the federal CDL standards, so the fastest way to prepare is to practice against the same material — free, unlimited retakes, every answer explained. Aim for consistent scores above 80%: that's the pass bar the real exams use.

Sample practice questions
In fog you should use:
Answer: Low beams (and fog lights) — High beams reflect off the fog; use low beams to see better.
When should you turn the retarder off?
Answer: When the road is wet, icy, or snowy — On slippery roads the retarder can spin the drive wheels and cause a skid.
When you downshift a manual transmission, you should:
Answer: Rev the engine up to match the lower gear — Downshifting needs higher RPM, so you rev up between gears; upshifting you let RPM fall.

CDL licensing in Utah is administered by the Utah Driver License Division. Fees, scheduling, forms, and the official Utah CDL manual live on the official site: Utah DLD — official CDL page (verified 2026-08-09).
Truckcess is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Utah Driver License Division. Our practice tests cover the federal CDL knowledge standards (49 CFR Part 383) that every state exam is built on; exact question counts, fees, and procedures vary by state and change over time — the official site is always the authority.
How the Utah CDL process works
- Study the official Utah CDL manual from the Utah DLD — state exams draw from it.
- Pass the written knowledge tests to earn your Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP). You can take the CLP knowledge tests before completing ELDT.
- Complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) from a provider on the federal Training Provider Registry — required before your skills (driving) test. Truckcess provides the theory portion. (Exception: for the HazMat endorsement, ELDT theory is required before its knowledge test.)
- Pass the three-part skills test — vehicle inspection, basic control, and road driving.
The full prep course — every practice test, narrated lessons, the spoken pre-trip trainer — is one-time (Class A $69, Class B $59) with 12 months of access: mytruckcess.com/cdl.
