Free Oregon CDL Practice Tests

Getting your CDL in Oregon starts with the written knowledge tests at the Oregon Driver & Motor Vehicle Services (ODOT). Those exams are built on the federal CDL standards, so the fastest way to prepare is to practice against the same material — free, unlimited retakes, every answer explained. Aim for consistent scores above 80%: that's the pass bar the real exams use.

Sample practice questions

When you downshift a manual transmission, you should:

Answer: Rev the engine up to match the lower gear — Downshifting needs higher RPM, so you rev up between gears; upshifting you let RPM fall.

You should use your horn:

Answer: Only when needed, since a loud horn can startle others into a dangerous move — Use it sparingly and only when it improves safety.

On a very hot day, a tire reads higher pressure than normal. You should:

Answer: Leave it — higher pressure from heat is normal — Heat raises pressure; bleeding it leaves the tire underinflated when it cools.

CDL licensing in Oregon is administered by the Oregon Driver & Motor Vehicle Services (ODOT). Fees, scheduling, forms, and the official Oregon CDL manual live on the official site: Oregon DMV — official CDL page (verified 2026-08-09).

Truckcess is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Oregon Driver & Motor Vehicle Services (ODOT). Our practice tests cover the federal CDL knowledge standards (49 CFR Part 383) that every state exam is built on; exact question counts, fees, and procedures vary by state and change over time — the official site is always the authority.

How the Oregon CDL process works

  1. Study the official Oregon CDL manual from the Oregon DMV — state exams draw from it.
  2. Pass the written knowledge tests to earn your Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP). You can take the CLP knowledge tests before completing ELDT.
  3. Complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) from a provider on the federal Training Provider Registry — required before your skills (driving) test. Truckcess provides the theory portion. (Exception: for the HazMat endorsement, ELDT theory is required before its knowledge test.)
  4. Pass the three-part skills test — vehicle inspection, basic control, and road driving.

The full prep course — every practice test, narrated lessons, the spoken pre-trip trainer — is one-time (Class A $69, Class B $59) with 12 months of access: mytruckcess.com/cdl.
