Arkansas Passenger (P) Practice Test
Required to drive any vehicle designed for 16 or more people including the driver — transit buses, motorcoaches, shuttle and church buses. The knowledge test moves the center of gravity from cargo to people: pre-trip items specific to buses (emergency exits, interior condition, standee line), loading and unloading discipline, railroad-crossing stop rules that apply to buses even empty, prohibited hazardous cargo, and handling disruptive passengers. A skills test in a representative bus follows the knowledge test.
Who needs it: Bus, motorcoach, and shuttle drivers — any vehicle built for 16+ occupants.
Sample practice questions
During a roadside inspection with passengers aboard, the professional driver:
Answer: Follows directions, has documents ready, and briefly reassures passengers it's a routine stop — Cooperate, be courteous, keep riders informed and aboard unless directed otherwise; disputes go through the carrier later.
A rider near you keeps distracting you while you drive. You should:
Answer: Not let riders near you distract you — Do not allow riders near you to distract you from driving.
How does inspecting a bus differ from inspecting a regular commercial vehicle?
Answer: You add interior passenger-safety items plus required emergency equipment — A bus gets the standard vehicle inspection PLUS bus-specific interior items (handholds, railings, floor, seats, signaling devices, exits) and required emergency equipment. A and C are unsafe; D is wrong.
Common mistakes on the Passenger test
- Missing the bus-specific railroad-crossing rules — stopping distances and when stopping is required
- Forgetting the standee line and interlock rules that never come up in freight study
- Skimming the emergency-exit inspection items — every exit gets checked, and the test asks how
- Assuming freight experience covers it — passenger questions are their own chapter for a reason
